How My Little Big Homes Differ

'The Little Big Home' is the name I give to my new healing home developments.  These homes differ in many ways—floor plan, construction materials, their purposeful absence of “smart” technology—but the characteristics that most differentiate them from conventional homes are these five items:

 

1.  Elimination of ducted air heating and cooling. Replaced with space-saving, more-responsive, water-based radiant systems;

 

2.  Dramatically better ventilation.  Indoor air quality is paramount in a post COVID world.  My homes feature vapor permeable walls and use design elements that circulate air and eliminate ducts that harbor molds & viruses;

 

3.  Floor plans that reflect a modern post-COVID lifestyle.  Kitchen and Russian Fireplace as the literal center of the home, no more formal dining room, and the elimination of the Living Room replaced by a Zoom Room or Away Room that can double as a space for guests or home office;

4.  Significant reduction in toxic chemical-based building materials replaced with natural alternatives like wool, cork, hemp, and mineral paint or plaster finishes; and

 

5.  Reduced and shielded exposure to man-made electromagnetic fields.  We cannot escape the electro-smog that is part of a modern lifestyle, but we can mitigate many of these fields, and design bedrooms to be sleep sanctuaries that protect as well as help heal.
